Power BI can be used very effectively as a tool within a company. You’re probably familiar with this: every department has its own tools. Specialized tools certainly have their place, just as company-wide or cross-departmental tools do. However, it becomes problematic when different tools are used for the same topic — which might contradict each other, be maintained by different people, follow different update cycles, or be difficult to access due to decentralized file management.
This is where Power BI can be incredibly helpful. You might now be thinking, “Oops… but that means additional licenses.” And I’m happy to respond: not necessarily. Below, you see an integration here on the website that is completely license-free and accessible. When placed and published in your intranet, it offers — at no additional cost — exactly what was described above: a consistent source of information, based on a consistent data situation, for all departments and employees for whom it’s relevant: HR, fleet management, finance, and even the employee who simply wants to know how much their new company car is likely to cost them.
The below is german – but you will find similar rulings in almost every country, so feel free to play arouind in this tool! It is more easy than you might think!
How do you create something like this in Power BI? How can Power BI, beyond offering a constantly accessible source, support this use case?
No secret here: using “parameters” as part of a “What if?” simulation makes this topic quite simple. In this example, only four parameters were used, which together calculate the monetary benefit for the private use of a company car. Sure, Excel can do that too.
But as clearly and visibly as this? Pinned to a central spot in the company intranet? Without needing to download and edit an Excel file locally?
Do you also have a multitude of tools in use at your company? Are you also concerned about different version states and redundant tools?
